1. Assertiveness and non-assertiveness – where is the line?

How to assess whether you are behaving assertively?

  • Assertive refusal technique – when you are confident in your decision and want to firmly refuse.
  • Assertive deferral technique - when you don't yet know how you want to behave, what to answer, but you want to make an informed decision.
  • Alternatives™ technique - when you want to diplomatically show the value of your solution and make aware of the consequences of your choice.
  • Broken record technique - when the interlocutor does not accept your answer or request and continues to push his goal, and you want to take care of your interests.

4. Assertiveness techniques – how to react to criticism, attack and manipulation?

Training in "Assertiveness, enforcement and constructive criticism" we design in accordance with our own learning model (developed on the basis of research by Kurt Lewin and David Kolb), which consists of the following stages:

  1. Putting the Participant in a situation requiring the activation of assertiveness skillsThe 4GROW cycle based on the Kolb and Kurt Lewin cycle
  2. Analysis and drawing development conclusions from the situation, defining the Participant's needs and motivators for development in the area of ​​assertiveness
  3. Providing assertiveness techniques and provoking the creation of assertiveness techniques
  4. Supporting the Participant in adapting an assertiveness technique or tool to the situations he encounters in life
  5. Practicing with the Participant an assertiveness technique or tool in a real or experimental situation (hot seat, role-playing)
  6. Supporting the Participant in drawing conclusions from experience and correcting assertiveness techniques or tools

We use a workshop and training format for at least 75% of the training time.

These forms allow us to reach one of the deepest levels of human mental functioning that blocks change: beliefs. The deeper the change, the more it entails changes at shallower levels - especially at the level of knowledge, skills and behavior. Because the level of beliefs is the deepest level that we can influence with training, we most strongly determine the development of assertiveness competences. The more developed the competence, the more effectively we influence the environment, i.e. we assertively care for our own comfort and the effective implementation of goals.
